Having a set routine for classroom dismissals is crucial to keeping order and structure among your students. Here are some procedures and tips to take the craziness out of your end-of-day dismissals! We’ve also put these in a video, featured below. Be sure to share it with other teachers!
Before dismissing your class, it is important to do the following.
*Communicate Clear Expectations.
*Be Consistent with your Routine.
*Allow Plenty of Time to Clean the Classroom.
*Reflect on the Concepts of the Day.
*End the Day with a Calm Activity.
Make a “Student Checklist” for dismissal by asking your students these questions. These can even be posted in the classroom for easy reference.
*”Are You Listening to Your Teacher’s Announcements and Instructions?”
*”Have You Completed Your Classroom Job?”
*”Have You Cleaned Your Desk?”
*”Do You Have Your Homework and Graded Work?”
*”Do You Have Your Parent Notes and Flyers?”
*”Do You Have Your Books and Notebooks?”
*”Do You Have Your Lunchbox?”
*”Do You Have Coat and Backpack?”
