If you’re looking to add a little something extra when reading books in class, check out the “Novel Effect” app!
The Novel Effect mobile app, compatible with phones and tablets, follows along as you read picture books aloud and adds music, sounds, and character voices at exact points in the story.
The app currently works with over 300 books and poems. You can use your own copy of the printed book, or choose a book or poem in app. Using voice recognition technology, the app adds an immersive storyscapeto engage young readers like never before.
Some books and poems can be used with the app free of charge, but most require a paid membership that accesses their entire library.
Personal account memberships are available for $7.99 a month or $59.99 a year. A seven-day free trial is available.
Educators can get a classroom account membership for $99.99 a year. That provides a license for an educator and up to 30 students. A 14-day free trial is available.
This video provides a brief explanation of how the app works.
This video shows the app in action, as it is used with the book “Martin’s Big Words.”
