Candy Corn Hunt
Recommended for Grades PK-2nd
Materials Needed:
*Box/Bag of White Rice (at least 2 boxes)
*Rubbing Alcohol
*Food Coloring (red and yellow)
*Large Zip Bag
*Sensory Table/Water Table/Bucket/Storage Bin
*Candy Corn (the yellow, orange, and white kind)
*Cookie Sheet
Process:
1-You will be separating your rice so you can make 2 colors (since the rice is already white, you won’t need to do anything to it for the white color). Use at least 3-4 cups of rice for each color.
2-To dye the rice, just pour your rice into a zip bag, add a splash of rubbing alcohol and about 8 drops of food coloring. Close the bag and shake it up!
3-In order to make the orange color even, it works best to pour the alcohol in a bowl and add the red and yellow before pouring it into the bag.
Ghost Slime
Recommended for Grades 3rd-5th
Materials Needed:
*1 teaspoon borax
*1/4 cup warm water
*1 bottle clear school glue
*water
*a handful of wiggly eyes
*disposable cup
*bowl
SAFETY NOTES:
1- Do not get borax in your mouth (or your student’s mouths). It is toxic. This activity is meant to be done with close adult supervision!
2- If a student has sensitive skin, you can let them wear gloves or play with the slime in a plastic bag.
Process:
1- Mix the borax in the warm water and set this aside. I use a plastic disposable cup.
2- Dump the clear school glue into a bowl. Fill the glue bottle up with warm water and dump that in too. Mix these two completely.
3- Dump a handful of wiggly eyes into the glue/water mixture.
4- Carefully pour the borax into the glue/water mixture. Mix it all well. After a minute, you will need to use your hands to knead it all together. It will stop being sticky and hold together well very quickly.
